In Sight of the Sea

Teleri Williams's poem sequence In Sight of the Sea is based on the life of her maternal grandmother, Thirza Emma. Inspired by old family photographs, memories and the few known details, she follows a trail from Emma's birth in Bridport in 1892, around the Mediterranean and to New York, back to the English Midlands and finally to rural Wales in an imaginative poetic journey to discover the real woman. The poems are illustrated by some of the many photographs left by Emma, and together they create a picture of the strong, determined woman whom the poet remembers.
